Checking in on the Red Sox prospects playing in the Arizona Fall League after one week of action.
While the minor league season has been over for weeks, 210 prospects continued their seasons, heading south to Arizona to play in the Arizona Fall League. Eight prospects from the Boston Red Sox organization joined the Mesa Solar Sox when the AFL got underway last Saturday night.
About the Arizona Fall League
Major League Baseball created the AFL to give teams a chance to keep developing prospects beyond the regular season. The AFL consists of six teams, which are each made up of seven or eight prospects from a group of major league teams. For example, the Red Sox prospect group is on the Mesa Solar Sox along with prospects from the Angels, Athletics, Blue Jays, and Cubs. The team’s coaching staff also includes minor league coaches from those same teams.
Each team plays a 30-game regular-season schedule at various spring-training facilities before a short playoff tournament among all six teams determines a champion.
Teams often use the AFL to give prospects who missed significant time due to injuries more in-game reps, while others use it to jump-start their development.
With the first week of Arizona Fall League action in the books, here's how the Red Sox prospects have performed:
Mason White
The highest-ranked prospect Boston sent to the AFL was SoxProspects' No. 27-rated prospect, infielder Mason White. A 2025 fourth-round pick out of the University of Arizona, White spent the first 68 games of the 2026 season with High-A Greenville, hitting .270/.362/.525/.887 with 14 home runs, 14 doubles, and 42 RBI. The 22-year-old was promoted to Double-A Portland on July 18, where he struggled at the dish in his final 33 games, hitting .208/.333/.377/.710 with only four home runs, four doubles, and 13 RBI.
White's end-of-season struggles have extended to the AFL, where he's hit .167/.348/.333/.681 with one home run and one RBI.
Antonio Anderson
A third-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, Anderson received an overslot signing bonus of $1.5 million to forgo his commitment to Georgia Tech. After struggling to a slash line of .210/.312/.297/.609 over his first three professional seasons, Anderson broke out in 2026 with High-A Greenville. In 85 games with the Drive, the 21-year-old hit .273/.373/.453/.826 with nine home runs, 17 doubles, and 46 RBI.
In five games for the Solar Sox, Anderson's strong season has continued, hitting .368/.500/.737/1.237 with two home runs and one double. Anderson ranks in the top 10 among all players in on-base percentage (T-8th), slugging percentage (4th), and OPS (6th).
Anderson is currently unranked in SoxProspects.com's organizational top 60.
Nazzan Zanetello
As a 2023 second-round pick, Zanetello signed a well-over-slot signing bonus of $3 million, foregoing his commitment to Arkansas. Things haven’t gone exactly to plan for the 21-year-old shortstop so far, as he’s missed significant time with injury and still hasn't shown the plate potential that made him an intriguing selection for Boston.
After a lengthy injury absence, Zanetello made his 2026 debut on July 26 with Greenville, where he played in 31 games to wrap up the season, hitting .234/.331/.468/.799 with six home runs, six doubles, and 13 RBI.
In six games for Mesa, Zanetello has hit .200/.385/.450/.835 with one triple, one home run, and an RBI.
Trennor O'Donnell
A 2023 eighth-round pick out of Ball State, the 6’7” right-hander missed the first four months of the season due to injury. In 15 appearances with the FCL Red Sox, Salem, and Greenville in 2026, the 25-year-old was hit hard, posting a 6.69 ERA over 37.2 innings.
Of the five pitchers Boston sent to Arizona, O'Donnell is the only one who has gotten into game action thus far. In his one relief appearance, O'Donnell tossed three scoreless innings, allowing no hits, striking out two, and walking only one.
Among the pitchers that have yet to see game action are Harry Blum, Madinson Frias, Nicholas Judice and Caden Vire.
The Mesa Solar Sox are 2-4 through six games and will be back in action on Monday night.
