While the Boston Red Sox are looking forward to the second half of the 2026 season, Major League Baseball is looking forward to the 2027 season, as the league announced the 2027 schedule on Thursday afternoon.

Here are some highlights from the schedule release: 

For the second time in four years, the Red Sox will open up their regular season campaign in Seattle, taking on the Mariners in a four-game set that gets underway on Thursday, March 25. After taking on the Mariners, Boston will continue on its seven-game season-opening road trip, heading to Houston for a matchup with the Astros. 

Just one year after opening up the season in Cincinnati, the Red Sox will welcome the Reds to Boston for a three-game series, beginning with the home opener at Fenway Park on April 1. 

The Red Sox will kick off Patriots Day weekend by welcoming the Cleveland Guardians to Fenway Park for a four-game set culminating in the annual Marathon Monday matinee. 

The Red Sox will welcome back 2018 Most Valuable Player and World Series champion Mookie Betts when the Los Angeles Dodgers come to Fenway for a three-game set on May 14-16. 

The Dodgers' trip to Fenway will mark the third time Betts has returned to his former home since being dealt to Los Angeles in 2020. 

As has become tradition in baseball’s new balanced schedule, the Red Sox and Yankees will have to wait a bit before their first clash in 2027. The two storied rivals won’t meet until the Yankees head to Boston for a four-game set beginning on June 4. 

The two will meet again just one week later, this time in the Bronx for a three-game series that gets underway on June 11. 

After playing seven of their 13 head-to-head games in a 10-day span, the two sides will have to wait almost two months until they meet again for a three-game set back at Fenway from August 6-8. They’ll meet for one final time in the regular season in the penultimate week of the year for a three-game series at Yankee Stadium from Sept. 17-19. 

The Red Sox will cap off a 10-game road trip at the end of July with a trip to Wrigley Field for a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs from July 30 to August 1. 

The 2027 season, of course, remains shrouded in the dark cloud that is the impending lockout, with both the owners and the players' association seemingly willing to miss games to get what they want from negotiations. 

Until then, though, the Red Sox will open up the second half of the season by welcoming the Tampa Bay Rays to Fenway Park for a four-game set that gets underway with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Jake Bennett (4-3, 2.64 ERA) will get the start for Boston in Game 1 opposite Griffin Jax (5-6, 3.47 ERA) for Tampa Bay. First pitch set for 1:35 p.m. ET.
