It was a great week in the Boston Red Sox minor league system as two of Boston's prospects earned minor league hitter of the week honors
It was a rough week for the Boston Red Sox at the major league level, but a great week for a pair of Boston prospects. Enddy Azocar and Louis Andujar both took home minor league player of the week honors at various levels.
About Azocar
It was a fantastic week for the 19-year-old outfielder, who hit .429/.478/.714 with four extra-base hits in five games. His hot week earned him the Carolina League Hitter of the Week for May 11-17.
Overall, Azocar has been off to a great start to the season for Salem, hitting .297/.348/.531 and matching his six home runs from the 2025 season in just 34 games, all while being over a year younger than the average player in Single-A.
Azocar signed with the Red Sox out of Venezuela as a part of the 2024 international free agent class for $40,000. After spending the 2024 season in the Dominican Summer League, he made his stateside debut in 2025, first in the Florida Coast League, where he spent just 14 games, before being promoted to Salem for the remainder of the season. Azocar struggled in his first taste of Single-A, hitting just .202 with a .587 OPS in the final 71 games of the then-Salem Red Sox season. Now in his second year at the level, he appears on the cusp of a promotion to High-A.
Azocar is currently ranked as the No. 12 prospect in the Red Sox organization by SoxProspects.com. According to SoxProspects, Azocar is an "Athletic outfielder with present secondary skills and power potential...Has a good chance to stick in center field and could even develop into a plus defender there. Moves well and has power, but feel for contact is still developing. How his hit tool develops will determine his ceiling. If it gets to average, he profiles as an everyday regular, but if not, he likely profiles better in a bench role."
About Andujar
An 18-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic, Andujar signed with the Red Sox organization as a part of the 2025 international free agent class for just $20,000.
After spending the 2025 season in the Dominican Summer League, where he hit .280 with a .974 OPS in 29 games, he is making his stateside debut in 2026 in the Florida Coast League, where he is making a fantastic first impression. In 11 games for the FCL Red Sox, the 18-year-old is hitting .410 with a 1.233 OPS with nine extra-base hits.
Over the last week, Andujar hit .538/.667/1.077 with five extra base hits in four games, earning him FCL Hitter of the Week honors.
Andujar is not ranked among SoxProspects' top 60 prospects in the Red Sox organization, likely due to the relative unknown status of international signees ahead of their US debuts. According to SoxProspects, Andujar has a "Solid approach and bat-to-ball skills."
While he is currently an unknown prospect in the Boston system, the hot start to the year is certainly enough to put the 18-year-old on the radar.
Meanwhile, back in Boston, the Red Sox will continue on their six-game road trip on Monday night, kicking off a three-game series with the Royals in Kansas City. Sonny Gray will get the start for Boston opposite veteran righty Seth Lugo for Kansas City. First pitch from Kauffman Stadium set for 7:10 p.m. ET.
