The Blue Jays are still looking to wrap up homefield advantage in the American League while the Red Sox are looking to clinch a playoff berth over the final week.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox open up a new series on Tuesday night in Toronto with plenty to play for.

With six games remaining in the regular season, Toronto is 90-66. They are two games up in the American League East and are seeking their first division title since 2015, and beyond that, they are trying to wrap-up homefield advantage in the looming American League playoffs.

The Red Sox enter play at 85-71 and they are looking to firm up a playoff berth for the first time since 2021. They are currently in control of the second wild card spot, but they are just one game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians and Houston Astros, who are tied for third.

Here are the pitching matchups for the three games:

Tuesday: Lucas Giolito (BOS) vs. Kevin Gausman (TOR)

Both pitchers have had solid seasons and this makes for a good matchup of right-handed veterans. Giolito, who missed 2024 with Tommy John surgery, is 10-4 with a 3.46 ERA. He's got a stellar 2.70 ERA in his last seven games, though he is coming off a clunker. He gave up four earned runs and five walks in 4.1 innings against the A's on Sept. 17.

Gausman is just 10-10, but he has a better 3.38 ERA, and he's been dominant of late, pitching to a 2.06 ERA in his last seven outings. He's given up just two earned runs in his last 23 innings.

Wednesday: Garrett Crochet (BOS) vs. Max Scherzer (TOR)

Crochet, one of the best pitchers in baseball, figures to get heavy consideration for the Cy Young Award this season. At 17-5, he has a 2.69 ERA and a whopping 249 strikeouts in 197.1 innings. He's logged three consecutive quality starts, though he did give up three earned runs in six innings in each of his last two.

Scherzer, the future Hall of Famer, is in his first year in Toronto, and he's 5-4 with a 5.06 ERA. Because of injury, the 41-year-old has only thrown 80.0 innings, but he's still shown strikeout stuff (77). He's coming off one of the worst starts of his career, giving up seven earned runs in 0.2 innings against the Royals on Sept. 19.

Thursday: Brayan Bello (BOS) vs. Shane Bieber (TOR)

Bello, who has drawn comparisons to Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez, is 11-8 with a 3.34 ERA. The 26-year-old has a 3.60 ERA in his last seven starts, but he's struggled a bit of late, giving up seven earned runs in his last nine innings. He's failed to go past five innings in each of his last two starts.

Bieber, the former Cy Young winner, is 3-2 with a 3.57 ERA since coming off the injured list because of 2024's Tommy John surgery. He's gone six-plus innings in each of his last two starts.

Now 30 years old, he's struck out 34 batters in 35.1 innings.

First pitch on Tuesday night is set for 7:07 p.m. ET. For scoreboard watching purposes, the Guardians play the Tigers and the Astros visit the Athletics.
