With the Championship Series round in full swing and the offseason inching closer, Major League Baseball announced the Gold Glove finalists on Wednesday. Among the 30 American League finalists are three Boston Red Sox players: third baseman Caleb Durbin, right fielder Wilyer Abreu, and center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela.
Here’s what you need to know about their chances of taking home the award:
Durbin
In his first season in Boston, Durbin picked up right where former Red Sox third baseman and National League Gold Glove finalist Alex Bregman left off, providing excellent defense at the hot corner.
Sep 30, 2026; Bronx, New York, USA; Boston Red Sox third baseman Caleb Durbin (5) throws to first base in the sixth inning against the New York Yankees during game two of the Wildcard round for the 2026 MLB Playoffs at Yankee Stadium. Vincent Carchietta-Imagn ImagesIn 1,302 innings at third, Durbin ranked in the top five in baseball in defensive runs saved (13, 2nd), outs above average (7, 3rd), and fielding run value (6, 3rd), leading all American League third basemen in all three categories.
He’ll be up against Minnesota Twins third baseman Brooks Lee and Nick Loftin of the Kansas City Royals. However, Durbin should be in good shape to claim his first Gold Glove Award.
Rafaela
The 2025 Gold Glove winner in center field, Rafaela, posted another spectacular defensive season in 2026.
Jul 2, 2025; Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Boston Red Sox center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela (3) makes a diving catch during the seventh inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Fenway Park. Paul Rutherford-Imagn ImagesAmong American League center fielders, Rafaela led the way in defensive runs saved (21), outs above average (16), and fielding run value. These marks were all well above the rest of the pack. In addition to being the best defensive center fielder in the American League, Rafaela is among the sport's best defenders at any position, ranking in the top 10 among all fielders in defensive runs saved (21, T-3rd), fielding run value (16, T-5th), and outs above average (16, T-6th).
Rafaela is joined by Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter and Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan as finalists for the award.
Abreu
The 27-year-old Abreu is looking to make it a threepeat of Gold Gloves in right field, having won the award in each of the last two seasons.
Abreu, like Rafaela, has established himself as not only one of the best right fielders in baseball but also one of the sport's best fielders overall, leading the league with 28 defensive runs saved in 2026.
Sep 16, 2026; Arlington, Texas, USA; Boston Red Sox right fielder Wilyer Abreu (52) fields a ball hit by Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (not pictured) during the eighth inning at Globe Life Field. Jerome Miron-Imagn ImagesThat said, he lags behind the pack in outs above average, posting a mark of two, which ranks sixth among American League players with at least 250 innings in right field. However, he makes up for it with 98th-percentile arm strength and 92nd-percentile arm value.
Abreu is joined by Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes and Houston Astros outfielder Cam Smith.
Gold Glove winners will be announced on Nov. 1 at 1:00 p.m. ET. and can be seen on ESPN.
