The Red Sox acquired outfielder Eli White in a deadline-day deal with the Atlanta Braves.
The Boston Red Sox were among the most active teams in baseball during Monday’s trade deadline day, making three moves to improve their roster. Among the players added was outfielder Eli White in an under-the-radar deal with the Atlanta Braves in exchange for pitcher Tyler Uberstein.
Here’s what you need to know about the newest player thrown into the outfield mix:
About White
The 32-year-old joins his third team in seven major league seasons, where he has served primarily as a fourth outfielder for both Atlanta and the Texas Rangers.
In 69 games for the Braves in 2026, White has hit .233/.285/.406/.691 with five home runs, six doubles, and 11 RBI. He posted the best year of his major league career in 2025, appearing in 105 games with Atlanta, where he hit .234/.270/.406/.677.

In each of his qualified seasons, White has ranked in the 96th percentile or better in sprint speed, ranking in the 99th percentile at 30.3 feet per second.
Defensively, White has played all across the outfield, providing plus defense in all three positions. In nearly 2000 major league innings in the outfield, the 32-year-old has posted 27 defensive runs saved, 18 outs above average, and 20 fielding run value.

Joe Puetz-Imagn ImagesBoston Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow met with the media on Monday night to discuss his deadline acquisitions, saying that the plan for White was to serve as a fourth outfielder, giving any of Boston’s regular outfielders, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, and Jarren Duran, days off without taking a step back defensively.
White is out of minor league options, so he will need to be immediately placed on the major league roster.

The Red Sox are riding high off a three-game sweep of the back-to-back World Series champion Dodgers and an active trade deadline day. They’ll look to carry that momentum back to Fenway Park on Tuesday when they welcome the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox for a three-game set. Patrick Sandoval (0-0, 3.32 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite Davis Martin (9-5, 3.62 ERA) for Chicago. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET.
