The former first-round pick is set to make his Red Sox debut after an offseason deal sent him to Boston.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, the Boston Red Sox will reportedly place utility man Nick Sogard on the injured list, recalling fellow utility man Anthony Seigler in his place.
MassLive.com’s Sean McAdam was first with the news that Sogard would land on the 10-day injured list after experiencing pain in his right side during Boston’s three-game series in Cleveland.
Sogard had performed well in 12 games since being recalled from Triple-A Worcester on May 16, hitting .257/.350/.371 while playing all over the infield in Trevor Story’s absence. Now he’ll hit the IL for at least 10 days.
Who is Anthony Seigler?
Seigler was acquired alongside third baseman Caleb Durbin, utility man Andruw Monasterio, and a draft selection in the offseason deal that sent pitchers Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan to the Milwaukee Brewers, alongside shortstop David Hamilton. The 26-year-old was a first-round draft pick of the New York Yankees in the 2018 MLB Draft.
After missing the first several weeks of the season with left knee patellar tendinopathy, the switch-hitting Seigler has performed well in Worcester, hitting .298/.425/.471 with three home runs and 21 RBI while playing primarily second and third base.
Seigler made his major league debut in 2025, appearing in 34 games for Milwaukee, hitting just .194/.292/.210 with five RBI.
According to SoxProspects.com, Seigler is an “Athletic, switch-hitting infielder and catcher. Solid defensive player with a high baseball IQ. Plus arm, solid ball blocking skills, above-average framing. Good instincts in the infield. Below-average bat-to-ball skills, but has a patient approach with a good eye. Fringe power, average speed. Profiles as an up-and-down player with the ceiling of a solid role player at the MLB level.”
Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram was first with the news that Seigler was headed to Boston.

--After experiencing LAT soreness after his first live batting practice last Tuesday, Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet underwent an MRI on Tuesday afternoon. Interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters after Tuesday's loss that the 26-year-old ace was diagnosed with a "very low grade" LAT strain and that he can resume throwing once he is asymptomatic. According to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, Crochet was still experiencing tightness in his LAT as of Tuesday afternoon.
--Left-handed starter Patrick Sandoval will begin his second rehab assignment of the season on Friday, pitching one inning for Worcester as he continues to work his way back from 2024 elbow surgery. Sandoval made two appearances with Worcester in April before left bicep tightness led to Boston returning him from the assignment.
The Red Sox and Orioles will be back at it from Fenway Park in game two of a three-game set on Wednesday night. Rookie left-hander Payton Tolle (2-2, 2.61 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite veteran righty Chris Bassitt (4-3, 5.06 ERA) for Baltimore. First pitch from Fenway Park set for 6:45 p.m. ET.
The Red Sox are currently in last place in the American League East.
