Will Singer be ready for the start of the season?

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Brady Singer exited a recent spring training start due to a blister on his right index finger. For those who may not be aware, blisters are concerning for starting pitchers since it impacts their ability to properly grip the baseball. It has even led to pitchers missing multiple starts in the past. According to MLB.com, however, Singer is expected to make his next scheduled start.

The Reds will monitor the situation, but it seems as if Singer should be fine with Opening Day less than a week away. Andrew Abbott is starting Opening Day, so Singer will have plenty of time before making his regular season debut. Barring any setbacks, the expectation is seemingly that he will avoid missing time due to the blister.

Brady Singer's Important Impact on Reds

Singer, 29, was traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Reds ahead of the 2025 season. He had an up and down first season in Cincinnati, pitching to a 4.03 ERA. However, Singer has become a fairly reliable veteran overall.

The right-handed hurler has made at least 27 appearances in each season since 2021. He made exactly 32 starts in both 2024 and 2025. He also struck out at least 163 hitters and recorded at least 169 innings pitched in both seasons.

At this point in his career, Singer is a pitcher who gives his team a chance to win every fifth day. He may not be the most dominant pitcher in baseball, but teams know what they are getting with Singer. The veteran is probably going to give a ball club an ERA in the high-3's or low-4's while starting every fifth day.

Singer is a valuable starting pitcher as a result. It is rare to find starters who can consistently stay on the mound in today's game. The Reds feature a young rotation overall, so Singer has emerged as the veteran of the group. His presence will be even more important with Hunter Greene not expected to return until July due to an injury.

Opening Day is drawing near. Cincinnati is currently finishing its final games of spring training. On March 26, the Reds will begin the 2026 regular season in Cincinnati against the Boston Red Sox.

Meanwhile, the Reds will continue to provide updates on Brady Singer's status as they are made available ahead of the upcoming regular season opening series.
