Reds players Eugenio Suarez and Edwin Arroyo will participate in the World Baseball Classic.

The Cincinnati Reds are set to have two more players participate in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, as it was announced on Thursday that Eugenio Suarez will play for Team Venezuela and Edwin Arroyo will play for Team Puerto Rico. Cincinnati now has six total players in the WBC. In addition to Suarez and Arroyo, Ivan Johnson (Great Britain), David Lorduy (Colombia), Ryjeteri Merite (Netherlands) and Alexander Vargas (Cuba) are set to play in the tournament.

Suarez, Arroyo Will Participate in World Baseball Classic

The Reds recently signed veteran slugger Eugenio Suarez to a contract for the 2026 season. He hit 49 home runs in 2025 and will add a much needed power boost to the Reds lineup. Suarez, 34, previously played in Cincinnati from 2015-2021.

A two-time All-Star, Suarez is expected to play a pivotal role with the Reds during the 2026 season. He will also play a significant role with Team Venezuela in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Suarez is set to join stars such as Ronald Acuna Jr., Luis Arraez, Willson Contreras, Jackson Chourio and Maikel Garcia on Team Venezuela.

Arroyo, meanwhile, is the Reds No. 8 overall prospect. A shortstop, Arroyo is a switch-hitter who offers impressive fielding prowess but is still developing offensively. If he can find consistency at the plate, Arroyo could become a star someday.

In 2025, Arroyo hit .284/.345/.371 across 120 games played at the Double-A level. He only recorded two home runs, but Arroyo did finish the season with 23 doubles, 63 runs scored and 12 stolen bases.

Team Puerto Rico has had some concerns with getting players the necessary insurance to participate in the WBC. As a result, star players such as Francisco Lindor and Carlos Correa are not expected to compete in the tournament.

Nevertheless, Arroyo will join a Team Puerto Rico roster that features Edwin Diaz, Nolan Arenado and Christian Vasquez.

When is the 2026 World Baseball Classic?

The 2026 World Baseball Classic is set to begin on March 5 and will be played through March 17. The games will be played in four locations -- San Juan, Puerto Rico, Houston, Texas, Tokyo, Japan and Miami, Florida. The semifinals and championship will both be played in Miami.

It is projected to be an exciting tournament. Suarez, Arroyo and all of the Reds players in the WBC will do everything they can to help their teams reach the championship.
