The Cincinnati Reds are looking to have a big 2026 campaign. Sal Stewart, who made his big league debut last year but his official rookie season is expected to be 2026, will play a big role. Stewart recently expressed confidence ahead of spring training, via Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.
"I know what I bring to the table is up to par at the big league level. I know what I can do. Now it’s going out there and trusting it," Stewart said.
Stewart, 22, hit .255/.293/.545 to go along with five home runs in his 18 MLB games in 2025. It was a small sample size, but he displayed his impressive hitting prowess. He is one of the most exciting prospects in the sport.
Stewart is MLB.com's No. 22 overall prospect for the 2026 campaign. He is known for his hitting ability. Between his bat-to-ball skills and power from the right side of the plate, this is a player who could instantly become one of the better hitters in the sport.
His defense is still a work-in-progress, and he does not run especially well. Nevertheless, Cincinnati is excited about his offensive ceiling, which, as mentioned, is extremely high.
The Reds' strength is their starting pitching. Hunter Greene leads one of the most underrated starting rotations in baseball. The offense has questions, however.
As mentioned, Stewart could make a difference. The Reds also brought in Eugenio Suarez to add power. Elly De La Cruz is a star as well.
Aside from those three players, however, it remains to be seen how the lineup will perform during the upcoming season.
TJ Friedl had some quality moments a season ago. Noelvi Marte may be able to make a significant impact. Tyler Stephenson is not a bad offensive catcher.
Still, the lineup would benefit from a couple more reliable bats.
If Cincinnati competes throughout the first few months of the '26 campaign, perhaps the team will attempt to trade for a couple of hitters. The Reds are realistically a couple of impactful bats away from emerging as a legitimate contender.
Regardless of whether or not they bring anyone else in, if Sal Stewart reaches his full potential, the Reds will receive a massive boost. Stewart's offense could prove to be game-changing at the MLB level.
Stewart, De La Cruz and Suarez will do everything they can to help the lineup score a respectable amount of runs this year.
