Eugenio Suarez is dealing with an injury.

The Cincinnati Reds have enjoyed a strong start to the 2026 MLB season. The ball club entered their game on Saturday night against the Detroit Tigers with a 17-9 overall record. In fact, Cincinnati and the Chicago Cubs are currently tied for first place in the National League Central standings. However, the Reds shared an unfortunate update ahead of Saturday's game.

Infielder/designated hitter Eugenio Suarez has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a mild left oblique strain. To move is retroactive to April 24. It remains to be seen how much time he will end up missing, but one would imagine that Nathaniel Lowe will receive more playing time amid Suarez's absence.

The news that Suarez could be placed on the IL was revealed on Friday, but Cincinnati did not make the official announcement until Saturday.

Losing Suarez is far from ideal. The Reds' offense has performed well in recent action, but it is still a lineup with a number of question marks. Losing the best power hitter on the roster to injury is a difficult blow.

Updates will continue to be monitored and provided on Eugenio Suarez's injury status as they are made available. For now, the ball club is focused on its game against the Tigers on Saturday night. It should be a competitive matchup between two talented squads.

Reds Star Eugenio Suarez Dealing With Oblique Injury

Suarez, 34, hit 49 total home runs during the 2025 MLB season while spending time with the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks. He earned his second All-Star selection as well. While Suarez did not hit for a great average and he struck out a lot, he still made an impact on both teams.

The Reds' offense clearly needed an upgrade this offseason. Cincinnati needed a power hitter without question. Suarez, who had previously played with the Reds from 2015-2021, ultimately signed a contract with Cincinnati.

So far in 2026, Suarez is hitting .231/.300/.363 across 25 games played. He has hit three home runs as well. Suarez has not played his best baseball, but he is still making a significant impact. Simply having a veteran leader with a proven track record helps matters. The Reds would not be where they are without him.

Cincinnati is hopeful that Suarez will not have to spend too much time on the injured list. As mentioned, the Reds will share updates on Suarez's status.
