The Royals earned a competitive victory over the Twins on Saturday.
The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Minnesota Twins by a final score of 5-4 on Saturday. Cincinnati is playing well to begin the season. However, their fans rarely have a game where they can sit back and watch the team cruise to victory. The Reds have been part of no shortage of one-run games this season. The Reds are finding ways to win close games, as they are now 13-8 overall and in first place in the National League East standings.
Reds manager Terry Francona commented on the team's ability to win close games after Saturday's contest, via Chatterbox Sports.
"I love our competitiveness and the will to keep playing," Francona said.
Baseball is a game where you need to come together and win as a team. The Reds seem to have good chemistry. Francona is one of the most respected managers in all of baseball, so the players surely enjoy playing for him.
The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers were the favorites in the division heading into the 2026 campaign. It is still too early to pay too much attention to the standings, but Cincinnati is clearly doing something right.
Reds Earn Win on Saturday
The Reds used a team effort to earn the win on Saturday against the Twins in Minnesota.
Starting pitcher Andrew Abbott did not have his best outing, as he allowed four runs (three earned) across 4.2 innings of work. The bullpen picked him up by shutting the Twins down the rest of the way, though.
Offensively, the Reds had 11 hits en route to their five runs scored. Eugenio Suarez and Nathaniel Lowe both had two hits each in the win.
The lineup has struggled this season. On Saturday, they helped Abbott amid his up and down start, though. This offense features more potential than people may imagine.
Cincinnati defeated Minnesota 2-1 on Friday as well, so the Reds now have a 2-0 series lead heading into Sunday's game. A sweep on the road against a Twins ball club that was playing fairly well heading into the series would be impressive to say the least.
Brady Singer (1-1, 5.60 ERA) will get the ball for the Reds on Sunday. He is hoping to have a big start amid his inconsistent season so far. For the Twins, Bailey Ober (2-0, 5.49 ERA) will start the contest.
First pitch on Sunday afternoon is scheduled for 2:10 PM EST in Minnesota in what should be another competitive game.
