And like I said, just do my best to game plan good and use my quality eye and just try to extend at bats and let the power just happen,” Bleday responded.
That message highlights exactly why the Reds targeted him. Cincinnati’s lineup struggled not just with power, but with sustaining rallies and putting pressure on opposing pitchers. Bleday’s emphasis on plate discipline and contact could help address both issues if he can translate that approach into results on the field.
There is also a developmental angle to this move. Once a top prospect, Bleday has yet to fully break out, but he has shown enough flashes to suggest there is still upside. A change of scenery, combined with a clear role and opportunity, could allow him to settle into a more productive rhythm.
