The Reds were defeated by the Marlins on Wednesday.

The Cincinnati Reds were defeated by a final score of 7-4 on Wednesday by the Miami Marlins. Cincinnati still leads the series 2-1 overall. The fourth game will be played on Thursday afternoon. Brady Singer started Wednesday's contest, but he never found much of a rhythm on the mound.

Singer, who previously dealt with a blister on his pitching hand, surrendered six runs and 10 hits across just 2.2 innings on the mound. The 29-year-old has now recorded a 7.71 ERA across three starts in 2026.

After Wednesday's contest, Reds manager Terry Francona addressed Singer's outing.

"He had a hard time obviously putting away hitters," Francona said of Singer. "There were some balls that weren't hit hard, there were some balls that were hit hard... Lot of base runners, a lot of hits."

The Reds are not going to give up on Singer any time soon. He is an established veteran at the big league level. While Singer has not become a star, he is a guy who has made at least 27 appearances in each season since 2021. The Reds know what they can get from Singer.

In 2025, the right-handed hurler turned in a 4.03 ERA in 32 starts. He had 163 strikeouts across 169.2 innings of work. That is who Singer is. He will give you a fairly respectable ERA while offering a good amount of innings and starts.

The Reds will need Singer to find his rhythm soon, however. For now, they will likely be patient with the veteran.

Reds Lose to Marlins

The Reds are still in a good spot overall despite Wednesday's loss to the Marlins. Cincinnati holds an 8-4 record. The ball club is currently tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League Central division.

The pitching did not find much success on Wednesday, but the offense had some good moments. Sal Stewart had two hits and a home run, while Eugenio Suarez also recorded two hits. Meanwhile, TJ Friedl went 3-5 at the plate.

Offense has been the question mark for most of the season for this ball club. The Reds have now scored 10 runs over their past two games, though. It seems as if the lineup is beginning to create some true momentum.

Cincinnati will play the Marlins once again in Miami on Thursday at 12:10 PM EST. The Reds will then return home for a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels, with the first contest scheduled for Friday night. The team is still playing well overall despite Wednesday's loss, so they will attempt to get back on track as soon as possible.
