Marte could be on the verge of a breakout season.

Cincinnati Reds versatile player Noelvi Marte may be on the verge of a breakout season. The 24-year-old split time between the outfield and third base in 2025, but it seems as though he will play most of his games in right field during the upcoming '26 campaign. Marte reportedly told Jeremy Rauch that playing in right field helps him think "more freely" about his at-bats, which is something that could lead to improved results from an offensive standpoint.

Of course, you have to pay close attention regardless of which defensive position you play. At third base, though, players have to consistently be locked in. Playing in the outfield provides players with more time to think about things. Long at-bats can become repetitive for defenders, so Marte could end up thinking more about his upcoming at-bats.

It's a small change that may not seem especially significant. However, it could help Marte in a pivotal manner. Additionally, playing one position may help Marte feel more comfortable overall, which could lead to improved performance.

Noelvi Marte's Outlook for 2026 Season

Marte made his MLB debut in 2023 with the Reds. For his career, he has slashed .254/.294/.400 across 191 total games played.

He hit .316 in 35 contests in his first season. Marte struggled in 2024, hitting just .210 with a .549 OPS across 66 games played. He saw improvement in 2025, slashing .263/.300/.448 while also recording a .748 OPS, 14 home runs, 17 doubles and 10 stolen bases in 90 games.

Marte has displayed potential. He is still putting it all together, but the talent is there without question. Perhaps his move to right field will be the final step in leading to a breakout year.

The Reds could certainly use a big offensive season from Marte. Cincinnati's pitching is its strength, while the lineup has legitimate question marks. Elly De La Cruz may be an MVP candidate if he is consistent, and Eugenio Suarez crushed 49 home runs a season ago, but the all-around offense has undeniable uncertainty.

The Reds' lineup may end up outperforming expectations, though. Sal Stewart could realistically win the National League Rookie of the Year, while Matt McLain still features an intriguing ceiling. Of course, a Noelvi Marte breakout campaign would only further help matters.

Cincinnati's pitching will lead the way throughout the upcoming MLB season, but the offense could take a step forward in 2026.
