The Reds earned an impressive victory on Sunday.

The Cincinnati Reds trailed for most of their game against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. It seemed as if their inconsistent offense was destined to have another lackluster overall performance. Cincinnati trailed by a score of 3-1 heading into the ninth inning. The offense finally woke up in the ninth, however.

The Reds scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Minnesota answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to force extra innings, but Cincinnati scored three more runs in the top of the 10th. The Reds shut the Twins down in the bottom half of the inning and ultimately earned an impressive 7-4 victory.

How the Reds Avoided a Difficult Loss Against Twins

Brady Singer started the game and pitched well for Cincinnati. The right-hander overcame some early trouble to turn in six innings of three-run baseball in a quality start.

The lineup was quiet for most of the game until late in the contest. TJ Friedl had a big performance with two hits and three RBIs. Rece Hinds added a hit and two RBIs, while Elly De La Cruz hit a double and scored two runs. The team only had three total extra-base hits and no home runs, yet they still managed to score six runs in two innings and seven overall.

Cincinnati's lineup was near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories early in the year. While they are still in the bottom half of the league in many statistics, the Reds are improving.

The Reds are now 26th in runs scored (they were last not too long ago). While Cincinnati is still last in batting average, the ball club is 15th in home runs. Cincinnati's lineup is still far from a reliable offensive unit, but the team is displaying signs of potential.

They swept the Twins in their three-game weekend series. On Saturday the Reds scored five runs. This was one of their biggest overall offensive series of the season.

The Reds now hold a 14-8 record in 2026. Cincinnati leads the National League Central division. The team has found ways to win even when the offense does not perform well. If the lineup is able to continue to improve, Cincinnati will become a legitimate contender in the National League.

The Reds will look to continue playing a quality brand of baseball on Monday night against the Rays in Tampa Bay.
