Episode 8 of The Roundtable Rundown Show is live. Joey Mistretta and Josh Valdez discussed a number of topics in this episode, including the Cincinnati Reds' recent contract agreement with Eugenio Suarez.
Here is a breakdown of the episode.
Suarez previously played in Cincinnati with the Reds and now he is set to return to the ball club on a one-year deal. The Reds needed offense, and Valdez and Mistretta both agreed that Suarez will make a significant impact in the lineup.
The guys also addressed the San Francisco Giants' Luis Arraez signing. While they agree it's not a bad signing, the fact that Arraez does not offer much aside from contact ability and low strikeout rates was discussed. Defensively, the right side of the infield features serious uncertainty with Rafael Devers at first base and Arraez at second.
Mistretta even said he's not sure if Arraez will land more than a one or two year deal in the future given his specific skill set. With that being said, they agreed that Arraez's ability to frustrate pitchers and get on base via hits could help the overall lineup.
The Athletics continue to make moves. They have signed players such as Tyler Soderstrom to contract extensions in the past, and they recently agreed to a contract extension with Jacob Wilson.
Mistretta and Valdez are intrigued by what the Athletics are building. The team's young core could help them reach the postseason within the next season or two. With that being said, Valdez and Mistretta are not especially confident in the Athletics' starting pitching.
Finally, the guys also talked about Monday's reported trade that saw the Seattle Mariners acquire Brendan Donovan. Donovan had been mentioned in trade rumors for months, and he will help replace Suarez's departure in Seattle.
The Mariners look like a legitimate World Series contender. Their starting pitching is absolutely electric while the offense could make plenty of noise with Donovan now in the same lineup as Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh.
The guys agreed that the Mariners are among the favorites in the American League. While teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees will still be difficult to defeat, Valdez and Mistretta believe Seattle could make things interesting in the postseason.
