The Colorado Rockies have had a brutal year, but the future could be bright.

The 2026 Major League Baseball season for the Colorado Rockies is nearly over.

As contenders get ready for the playoffs and fringe contenders continue to fight for Wild Card spots, there is a chance that the Rockies, who will play the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday to open their final series at home of the season, will lose their 100th game.

It will mark the fourth year in a row that Colorado has lost at least 100 games, and with six remaining, including Tuesday’s, there is plenty of reason to believe they will lose more than that.

The good news, however, is that the Rockies seem to be trending in the right direction. They found rock bottom in 2025 when they went 43-119, the lowest point for the franchise.

At the time of writing, they are 57-99, which is a noticeable improvement. Now, the organization and its fans can look forward to 2027

The right people

Recently, The Athletic put out its weekly power rankings, and now that the season is in its final week, it included a subcategory for each team regarding what to look forward to in 2027.

For the Rockies, it is simply about having the right people in the building. First-year President of Baseball Operations Paul DePodesta seems to have the right idea about the direction he wants the team to go in, and that is important for this group.

As The Athletic highlighted, it is hard for a new front office to make drastic changes for a team that is coming off its lowest point. Rebuilds are not easy, and while this one might be hard for the team and the fans, incremental progress is important.

Another point of emphasis when considering those who are in the building is the players themselves. The Athletic did not mention any of them, but there are some roster pieces to get excited about heading into the future.

Hunter Goodman, the 26-year-old two-time All-Star, is chief among this group. Over the final six games of the Rockies’ season, he will be searching for his 40th home run, which goes to show how elite he can be.

Others on the roster who have demonstrated high levels of talent are TJ Rumfield, Jake McCarthy and Cole Carrigg. Each of them is young and trending in the right direction, and they are all under team control for years.

DePodesta made the right call to retain Goodman and McCarthy at the MLB Trade Deadline, and he believes in what the future holds with this group. That kind of vision is important, and it is something to build on.
