The Kansas City Royals have dealt with injury concerns this season, and they received another unfortunate injury update on Monday. Left-handed starting pitcher Kris Bubic is dealing with left elbow soreness. The Royals placed him on the injured list on Monday and recalled right-handed pitcher Eli Morgan from Triple-A.

Bubic, 28, pitched to a 2.55 ERA across 20 starts during the 2025 season. He earned the first All-Star selection of his career in what was a strong campaign for the southpaw. Through nine starts in 2026, however, Bubic turned in an underwhelming 4.11 ERA.

Now, Bubic lands on the injured list with an elbow concern. The severity of his injury is uncertain, but teams are always extremely cautious when it comes to elbow injuries and pitchers.

The Royals will continue to monitor and provide updates on Bubic's injury status as they are made available.

Morgan, meanwhile, was recalled in a corresponding move. The 30-year-old pitcher joined Kansas City ahead of the '26 campaign. He has performed well with the Royals when at the big league level this year, as he has pitched to a strong 2.61 ERA across seven outings.

Morgan features a proven track record at the big league level as well. He previously spent time with the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago Cubs.

The Royals are hopeful that Morgan will be able to play an impactful role out of the Royals' bullpen. Nevertheless, they will miss Bubic's presence in the starting rotation.

The Royals are beginning a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. Kansas City is looking to get back on track after losing two out three games to the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend.

Kansas City will enter the contest on Monday night with a 20-27 overall record. The ball club is tied with the Detroit Tigers for last place in the American League Central standings.

The Red Sox have not been any better, though. Boston is currently 19-27 and in last place in the American League East standings. 

Both teams entered the '26 campaign with lofty expectations. Yet, they have both underperformed up to this point in the season. 

Both the Royals and Red Sox would certainly love to turn their seasons around this week. The Royals will look to get the job done at home against Kansas City. The series projects to be quite competitive.
