Bobby Witt Jr. had a big game on Sunday.
The Kansas City Royals lost a competitive game to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, enduring a difficult 6-5 defeat. Royals starting pitcher Noah Cameron allowed five earned runs across 5.1 innings on the mound. Kansas City's bullpen only surrendered one run after his departure, but the ball club still fell short in the end.
The Royals offense was able to score five runs. Bobby Witt Jr., who has had an up and down start to the 2026 season, enjoyed a big game. He went 1-2 at the plate to go along with three walks and two RBIs.
Sure, he did not hit a home run or have multiple hits. However, Witt reached base four times and played a huge role in helping the offense find success.
Witt, of course, is one of the best players in the entire sport. Through 16 games played this year, the Royals shortstop is slashing .271/.371/.322 across 59 at-bats. He has yet to find his home run swing, however. Witt hasn't hit a home run this season, and he only has three extra-base hits overall.
As a result, his OPS is only .693 despite his strong .371 OBP. One has to imagine Witt's power will return sooner rather than later. After all, this is a player who hit 23 home runs a season ago and 32 in 2024.
With all of that being said, Witt is making an impact. His performance on Sunday unquestionably helped the Royals. The team's six runs surrendered ultimately led to the loss, but scoring five runs as an offense is a good day of work.
Still, Royals fans are hoping to see Bobby Witt Jr. hit a ball over the fence soon. With the Royals' decision to move their outfield fences in during the offseason, it should not be long before Witt crushes his first long ball of the 2026 campaign.
What's Next for Royals After White Sox Series?
Kansas City will have an off day on Monday. The ball club is set to travel to Detroit to play the Tigers in a three-game series, with the first contest scheduled for Tuesday.
Royals ace Cole Ragans is set to start the game in Detroit. He is expected to start after suffering an injury scare in his most recent outing. Framber Valdez will get the ball for the Tigers.
The clash between the American League Central opponents is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST in Detroit.
