The Royals provided two injury updates on Wednesday.
The Kansas City Royals are looking to build some momentum in 2026 following a difficult start to the season. Injuries have impacted the team, however. On Wednesday, the Royals shared updates on two pitchers.
Right-handed pitcher Ryan Bergert had successful right ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery on Wednesday. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Ben Kudrna underwent successful olecranon stress fracture fixation surgery.
Bergert, 26, spent time with both the San Diego Padres and the Royals during the 2025 season. Overall, he pitched to a 3.66 ERA across 19 outings (15 starts). He has not pitched in 2026.
Kudrna, 23, is the Royals' No. 9 overall prospect. He does not throw especially hard, but he features a good changeup and his ceiling is rather high. Kudrna has made 87 total appearances in the minor leagues (83 starts) and he has pitched to a 4.39 ERA overall. He appeared in only one game at Triple-A in 2026.

More Royals Injury Updates
As mentioned, injuries have impacted the Royals this year. Vinnie Pasquantino exited the team's game on Wednesday against the Athletics with low back tightness. According to Cody Tapp, Royals general manager JJ Picollo said he does not expect Pasquantino to land on the injured list.
Pasquantino is being considered day to day at the moment. It seems as if his injury is not too serious, but it will be a situation to closely monitor.
Royals' 2026 Season
Kansas City will enter its game on Wednesday night against the Athletics with a 12-17 overall record. While the Royals have unquestionably underperformed in 2026, the ball club has found success in recent action. The Royals have won four consecutive games heading into Wednesday night's contest.
With that being said, the team is still in last place in the American League Central standings. Yet, they are only 2.5 games back of first place right now, though. Kansas City is more than capable of bouncing back in the winnable American League Central division.
The Royals currently lead their series with the Athletics 1-0, as they defeated the A's by a final score of 4-1 on Tuesday night. The game on Tuesday is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST as Kansas City looks to win its fifth consecutive game and clinch a series victory on the road against the Athletics.
