Jac Caglianone has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 flexor strain after he exited Saturday's matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Kansas City Royals figured out what has been troubling Jac Caglianone following his exit from Saturday's matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays after the second inning with left elbow soreness.

This morning, manager Matt Quatraro has said that Caglianone suffered a Grade 1 flexor strain and will be sidelined for three days per Anne Rogers of MLB.com.

"Right after that inning, he came down, said something to [head athletic trainer Kyle Turner]," Quatraro said. "They went down below. [Caglianone] was left on deck. We were going to see if he could throw in the cage prior to sending him out, but we’re going to be more cautious than just if he could make one throw in the cage."

Nick Loftin would end up manning right field after Caglianone experienced pain in his left elbow when he attempted to nab Ernie Clement at third base with a 95.2 mph throw which Bobby Witt Jr. cut off.

This was not the first time that Caglianone left in the middle of a game this season as he also exited the Royals' Aug. 19 matchup against the Athletics with right ankle soreness, an issue that continued nagging him during their next series against the AL Central rival Detroit Tigers. He would sit out during the finale of that series as Kansas City sought to give him extra rest.

Fortunately, Caglianone avoided a stint on the injured list and will look to do so once again as he and Kansas City work out an effective solution for his flexor problem.

With his .283 hitting average and team-best 70 RBI, Caglianone's absence last night stung when the Royals came up short to Toronto 4-3 while also losing the series.

The Blue Jays struck early when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made Josh Rojas pay for a costly throwing error in the first, reaching home to put Toronto ahead. Nathan Lukes extended the lead to 2-0 with a one-run single that drove in Alejandro Kirk.

Kansas City responded that same inning to tie it at 2-2 as Carter Jensen scored off an infield single by Caglianone while Salvador Perez brought home Witt Jr. with an RBI single.

Toronto reclaimed the lead during the third as Kazuma Okamoto scored Lukes with a one-run double. Even then, the Royals countered once more in the fourth when John Rave crushed a solo homer to right field.

Still, the Blue Jays refused to back down against reliever Craig Kimbrel in the seventh when Okamoto scored George Springer with an RBI single.

Loftin and Perez attempted to ignite a late rally in the eighth with a pair of singles, but it wasn't enough when Vinnie Pasquantino grounded out into a double play while Michael Massey was retired as well.

The Royals will turn their attention to avoiding the sweep this afternoon at 2:10 p.m. EDT when Randy Dobnak takes the mound against right-hander Spencer Arrighetti.
