Jac Caglianone, Carter Jensen Could Help Royals Win AL Central in 2026 cover image

These two players could make the difference this season.

The Kansas City Royals will be a team worth closely watching during the upcoming 2026 MLB season. Kansas City seems to want to contend as the ball club continues to build the roster around Bobby Witt Jr. The Royals have been rumored to have interest in acquiring another star position player, but does the team already have two impactful bats waiting alongside their leaders on the roster? A post from MLB Pipeline recently suggested that outfielder Jac Caglianone and catcher Carter Jensen "will get opportunities to play and establish themselves in 2026."

Jensen is the Royals' No. 1 overall prospect. He's also ranked within the top 50 among all prospects.  Meanwhile, Caglianone was a highly-regarded prospect before making his MLB debut in 2025.

While he did struggle in 2025 -- Caglianone slashed just .157/.237/.295 across 232 plate appearances -- he is a guy who Kansas City still believes in. As for Jensen, he's a top ranked prospect for a reason. His home run potential is especially enticing, while he is expected to contribute in other facets of the game as well.

Royals Roster's Current Outlook for 2026 MLB season

Witt will lead the offense once again. He has become a legitimate MVP candidate who is among the best players in the sport.

Maikel Garcia received a contract extension. He will impact the Royals for years to come.

From a pitching standpoint, Cole Ragans is expected to lead the way. While he has been mentioned in some trade rumors, Kansas City will likely hold onto the starter. Michael Wacha and Kris Bubic are other starters who will play important roles in the rotation.

Looking at the bullpen, closer Carlos Estevez is a reliable option. Lucas Erceg has found success as well. The Royals also brought in Matt Strahm to strengthen the relief core.

Kansas City is a few pieces away from becoming a true contender, but the potential is present. If Jac Caglianone and Carter Jensen are able to step up and help the Royals in 2026, they could fill the voids on the roster. Their presences would also save the Royals from having to go find an external option or two in free agency or via a trade.

Sure, the Royals may still make another addition, but Caglianone and Jensen will likely receive opportunities during the upcoming campaign. They both have All-Star ceilings, something the Royals are aware of without question. It's also something the Royals' AL Central rivals understand.
