The Kansas City Royals recently made two roster moves, signing pitchers Hector Neris and Aaron Sanchez. Kansas City's decision to bring in the two veterans is respectable, as pitching depth is never a bad thing. There is still one area of the roster the Royals need to address, however.
The team's pitching rotation should be alright in 2026. The bullpen is capable as well. Meanwhile, Kansas City features one of the best infields in the sport. The Royals' outfield is the team's biggest question mark, though.
Jac Caglianone, Isaac Collins, Lane Thomas and Kyle Isbel are among the outfield options in Kansas City. The Royals seemingly have interest in giving the outfield an upgrade, as they were rumored to be interested in Harrison Bader before he signed with the San Francisco Giants.
The ball club should not give up on their pursuit of bringing in another outfielder, though. It does not have to be a star -- although that certainly would not hurt -- but adding at least one more reliable outfield bat could prove to be a game-changing move.
Early in the offseason, the Royals were linked to Jarren Duran and Brendan Donovan in trade rumors. Recent reports suggest Kansas City is unlikely to trade for either player, though. Donovan could still be traded from the St. Louis Cardinals, while a Boston Red Sox's Jarren Duran trade is still realistic as well -- but the Royals likely will not be acquiring either player this offseason.
In free agency, Austin Hays is a possible option for the Royals. He's a former All-Star who offers some power from the right side of the plate. Starling Marte and Alex Verdugo are among the other outfield free agent candidates.
As far as trades are concerned, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos has consistently been discussed as a trade candidate. Jo Adell of the Los Angeles Angels and Lars Nootbaar of the St. Louis Cardinals are other players who may be moved. While they would likely want MLB talent in return, New York Yankees' outfield prospects Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones are possible candidates to be traded as well.
Regardless of which player they have the most interest in, adding an outfielder should be a priority for this Royals ball club. It would not only help the outfield itself, but it would make the overall lineup stronger with the presence of another bat.
