Teenager Angeibel Gomez is shattering records in the Arizona Fall League, flashing elite speed and a swing reminiscent of Bobby Witt Jr. as he climbs the rankings.

The Kansas City Royals could have a future star in 17-year-old Angeibel Gomez. He earned a spot on MLB.com’s top 100 prospects list in the season's latest update, as one of just three Royals on the list. With a big 2027, Gomez could jump the prospect rankings and become one of the higher-ceiling players in the Royals' farm system.

He was invited to the Arizona Fall League, a showcase for some of the youngest and best minor-league prospects. He became the youngest player to record a hit in the AFL since 2014.

Gomez then recorded multiple hits on Friday, becoming the first 17-year-old in AFL history to record 2 or more hits in a game since 2014 as well.

Gomez is a right-handed hitting outfield prospect who was signed out of Venezuela in 2025. He is currently the No. 2 prospect in the Royals organization behind 19-year-old right-handed pitcher Kendry Chourio, who has been trending up as well.

MLB.com lists his current ETA to the MLB as 2031, and scouts gave him a 70 run grade, suggesting he has great speed on the basepaths. He has a 50 hit tool and a 55 power grade, but scouts may have cut him short because he hit .361 in 47 games in his first professional season in rookie ball. Gomez also posted 15 stolen bases.

His swing, coincidentally, looks very close to the Royals’ superstar shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. He has very quick hands and utilizes minimal leg kick while being very short to the ball with his swing. Gomez hit nine home runs in his 47 rookie games.

With Gomez’s ETA being 2031, and Chourio’s being 2029, the Royals could have two game changing prospects in their distant future. Furthermore, if both players keep up the pace they are currently on, they could end up making their debuts much sooner than currently expected.

Kansas City, as an organization, is not in the best shape right now. As mentioned before, they have only three prospects in MLB’s top 100 rankings and had a disappointing 2026 season, finishing 69-93 after two straight winning seasons in 2024 and 2025.

Gomez and Chourio continue to develop, which could give fans hope for the future, as they're trending toward becoming cornerstone pieces of the franchise when they inevitably debut in Royals uniforms. Or, at the very least, they could be valuable trade chips in the near future if Kansas City can bounce back after 2026.
