The Minnesota Twins earned an 8-6 victory against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. Minnesota improved to 24-27 overall with the win, while Boston is now 22-28 this season.
The Red Sox expected to compete this year. Yet, the ball club is clearly underperforming. Meanwhile, the Twins have endured a mediocre season, but expectations were not as high for them heading into the '26 campaign.
Byron Buxton led the way on Friday night. The Twins star had three hits, a home run and three RBI in an overall strong performance.
As a team, the Twins' offense recorded eight runs on 10 hits. Austin Martin had two hits and a home run as well, while Ryan Kreidler and Luke Keaschall had two-hit performances in the ball game.
Starting pitcher Connor Prielipp did not have his best outing, as he allowed six runs (five earned runs) across four innings of work. The bullpen has been questionable this year, but it performed well against the Red Sox. Minnesota's relievers combined for five scoreless innings in the victory.
While the Twins had a team effort, it was Byron Buxton who led the way once again.
Byron Buxton Continues to Play Well
Buxton is in the middle of a strong season. The Twins star is now hitting .264/.322/.588 in his 43 games played. He has 16 home runs, nine doubles and one triple.
Buxton is likely going to be an All-Star if he continues to play at this level. He could even earn MVP consideration if he has this performance all season long.
Buxton's power stands out. He is consistently driving the baseball over the fence. It has become a trend for him as well, as Buxton recorded a career-best 35 home runs last year.
He will look to continue playing well moving forward.
Twins Set to Continue Series vs. Red Sox
The Twins earned a victory against the Red Sox in Boston on Friday night. They will continue the three-game series on the road on Saturday.
Overall, Minnesota is in third place in the American League Central standings with the aforementioned 24-27 record. The Twins are six games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the division. As for the Red Sox, Boston is in fourth place in the American League East standings.
