Minnesota Twins star Joe Ryan is one of the better pitchers in MLB, but where does he rank when it comes to fantasy baseball? Baseball America recently shared its list of the top 10 dynasty fantasy baseball pitchers ahead of the 2026 season, and Ryan checked in at No. 10 overall.
While some may argue Ryan's placement is too low, it is difficult to refute the pitchers ahead of him. Shohei Ohtani takes the top spot, while Tarik Skubal, Paul Skenes, Garrett Crochet and Yoshinobu Yamamoto round out the top five in that order.
Logan Gilbert, Hunter Brown, Hunter Greene and Christopher Sanchez are ranked No. 6-9 in that order, with Ryan at No. 10 overall.
While some may immediately argue that Skubal and Skenes are arguably the best pitchers in baseball right now, it is worth remembering that this list is purely for dynasty fantasy baseball purposes.
The dynasty element factors in the pitcher's long-term potential and outlook, which is why most of the hurlers on the list are on the younger side. In fact, Ryan is one of the older pitchers on the list at 29 years old. His age is probably why he's behind the hurlers who are ranked just ahead of him.
Ryan also plays for a Twins ball club that may not win on a consistent basis anytime soon. In most fantasy baseball leagues, wins do mean something -- while the pitcher win statistic is now ignored by many in the real world.
Still, Ryan brings a lot to the table in the fantasy baseball world. He has struck out 190 or more hitters twice in his career. In 2025, he finished with 194 strikeouts. He also features good control and doesn't walk many hitters, and Ryan does a good job of limiting overall hits. In 2024, he turned in a stellar 0.985 WHIP.
His 2025 pitching run value was ranked in the 71st percentile among pitchers. He ranked in the 84th percentile in strikeout percentage and 87th percentile in walk percentage.
While Ryan does allow his share of home runs, a pitcher who throws a lot of strikes, limits base runners and is capable of recording almost 200 strikeouts in a season is a guy who is a possible fantasy baseball ace.
If you are in a dynasty fantasy baseball league, Joe Ryan is certainly not a bad pitcher to have on your roster. And if you are in a non-dynasty league, Ryan is surely a hurler you will want to consider drafting.
