The Minnesota Twins officially added right-hander Jeff Hoffman to their active roster ahead of tonight's opener against the Kansas City Royals.
As the Minnesota Twins gear up for a three-game road series against the Kansas City Royals, newly acquired reliever Jeff Hoffman will join the team's active roster ahead of tonight's opener at 7:40 p.m. EDT.
Hoffman's addition should help bolster a previously struggling Twins bullpen after he compiled a 3.94 ERA and 1.38 WHIP while earning five saves and striking out 75 batters in 48 innings pitched this season for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Meanwhile, the Twins will option left-hander Kendry Rojas to Triple-A St. Paul as the corresponding transaction after he surrendered two hits and three earned runs in a single inning during the team's 7-6 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 2.
Rojas' demotion from the major-league roster also comes following four impressive outings in May that all led to wins for Minnesota as he combined for 14 strikeouts through 12.1 innings of work. He would have his best showing on May 10 against the Cleveland Guardians, striking out five batters and allowing a single earned run across 3.1 innings.
The 23-year-old out of Ciego de Avila, Cuba will look to improve on his 4.50 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with the Saints after pitching 22 innings for them thus far.
Like Hoffman, Rojas also joined Minnesota from the Blue Jays organization, but in July 2025 as part of a trade package that sent Louis Varland and Ty France the other way.
Their MLB journeys began differently with Rojas signing with Toronto as an international free agent in October 2020 while Hoffman would be drafted ninth overall by the Blue Jays in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
Hoffman would end up making his big-league debut in 2016 with the Colorado Rockies, recording a 4.88 ERA and 1.72 WHIP while striking out 22 batters. Still, the right-hander has improved throughout his career.
Most notably, he compiled a 3.83 ERA and recorded 45 punchouts in 44.2 innings during his second season with the Cincinnati Reds in 2022.
He changed uniforms once again in 2023 though, joining the Philadelphia Phillies where he stayed until 2024. Hoffman would finish that season with a 0.96 WHIP and a career-low 2.17 ERA that quickly piqued the Blue Jays' interest.
As a result, Hoffman managed to strike a three-year, $33 million deal with Toronto in 2025 during free agency.
Regardless, him being traded to Minnesota on Monday would cut the reunion short.
Now, Hoffman will have his sights set on recording his sixth save of the season against the 46-67 Royals who rank fifth in the AL Central.
