Where did Byron Buxton land among MLB Network's top 10 center fielders?

Minnesota Twins star outfielder Byron Buxton is among the best center fielders in baseball. So, where did he rank in MLB Network's top 10 center fielders list, according to The Shredder?

Buxton checked in at No. 3 overall, behind Wyatt Langford at No. 2 and Julio Rodriguez at No. 1 overall. Rodriguez is the No. 1 center fielder in the sport for the second consecutive season, while Langford is an up-and-coming star with the Texas Rangers. Nevertheless, Buxton is still top three in MLB according to the list.

Byron Buxton Checks in at No. 3 Overall

Buxton earned his second career All-Star selection in 2025. There was a time when Buxton was expected to become one of the best players in all of baseball. Injuries have unfortunately limited him, but 2025 was a nice step in the right direction.

Buxton's 126 games played was the second highest mark of his career. He ended up finishing the '25 campaign with a .264/.327/.551 slash line to go along with 35 home runs, 21 doubles, 97 runs scored, 83 RBI and 24 stolen bases.

Buxton is a terrific all-around player. He ended 2025 in the 95th percentile for batting run value and 99th percentile for baserunning run value. He was in the 96th percentile for both hard-hit and barrel percentage.

Buxton gets the job done in center field from a defensive standpoint as well. He was in the 81st percentile in outs above average. It is also worth noting that Buxton was in the 100th percentile for sprint speed.

In other words, he hits the baseball extremely hard, runs well and steals bases at a high rate and offers quality defense in center field. It is not surprising to see why The Shredder considers him a top three player in the sport.

Perhaps Buxton can challenge the No. 2 and No. 1 spots in 2026 with another big season. In all reality, he probably is already challenging those spots.

Langford played well in 2025 but there is an argument to be made that Buxton deserves to be above him on the list. Rodriguez had a 30/30 season and is probably still the best center fielder at the moment, but Buxton is not far behind.

The Twins will need Byron Buxton to play at an elite level if they want to make a postseason run. The team has a number of questions, but Buxton is capable of helping them compete nonetheless.
