The Minnesota Twins designated infielder Vidal Brujan for assignment on Wednesday, the team announced. The move came after Minnesota acquired infielder Tristan Gray from the Boston Red Sox in a trade.
Brujan, 27, was claimed off waivers by the Twins on January 14 after getting designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves. Now, just a week later, he is being designated for assignment once again to make room on the 40-man roster for Gray.
It has been a busy week for Brujan to say the least. He will likely be claimed by another team, as Brujan is only 27 years old as mentioned. Brujan also offers defensive versatility, as he can play shortstop, second base and the outfield.
He spent the 2025 season with three different teams, playing with the Braves, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs. Overall, he hit .253/.305/.310 across 60 total games played.
The infielder made his MLB debut in 2021 with the Tampa Bay Rays. He is a player who is capable of making an impact in a utility role. It would be surprising if he did not end up with another ball club soon.
It has been a relatively quiet offseason for the Twins. They signed first baseman Josh Bell earlier in the offseason. Minnesota recently agreed to a contract with catcher Victor Caratini, although the signing has yet to be made official.
As previously mentioned, Brujan was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Gray. The Twins will need to make another move in order to create room on the 40-man roster for Caratini once his signing is made official. As a result, another player could be designated for assignment soon.
Spring training is drawing near. At this point, the chances of the Twins making a big splash in free agency or via a trade seem unlikely. Sure, anything could happen, but Minnesota is seemingly content with its current roster. New manager Derek Shelton did previously hint at more moves to come from a bullpen standpoint, so perhaps Minnesota will bring in a reliever or two.
They will need to act fast, however, as spring training is set to begin in February. For now, the Twins' roster feels fairly incomplete, although there is some potential with Byron Buxton, Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez and Royce Lewis leading the way.
The Twins could potentially surprise the MLB world in 2026.
