The Minnesota Twins prospect group was named their biggest trade chip ahead of the deadline.

The Minnesota Twins find themselves at a crossroads heading into the trade deadline. The direction they ultimately choose to go will have a huge impact on one of the deeper farm systems in baseball.

MLB.com weighed in on Minnesota's trade deadline plans, identifying the Twins' prospect depth as their biggest trade asset heading into the deadline if they choose to buy.

"It depends whether they buy or sell. The Twins have four Top 100 Prospects: Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel Rodriguez, Kaelen Culpepper and Eduardo Tait. They are highly unlikely to move Jenkins or Culpepper," the outlet wrote.

If the Twins decide to buy and go all in for a playoff run, these four prospects become the currency they could use to acquire established big-league talent. The question is how far they are willing to go.

Jenkins is the crown jewel of the system and one of the best prospects in all of baseball.

MLB.com was clear that he is almost certainly staying put even in a buy scenario, which speaks to how highly the organization values him as a key piece of the future.

Drafted fifth overall in 2023, the 21-year-old has torn up Triple-A this year, posting a .277 batting average, .385 on-base percentage and .838 OPS.

Culpepper falls into that same protected category. The 23-year-old shortstop has also been excellent at Triple-A this season and is essentially big-league ready, making him too valuable internally to give away even in an aggressive buy scenario. If anything, both Jenkins and Culpepper are more likely to be called up to the active roster than traded.

That shifts the focus to Rodriguez and Tait as the more realistic trade chips if Minnesota pulls the trigger on a move. Rodriguez is a 23-year-old outfielder who has consistently torn up the minor leagues, but he is currently injured and unavailable for a call-up.

That actually makes him a candidate to be flipped for pitching the Twins can use right now, and given how highly regarded he is, Minnesota may only need to move him alone to acquire a meaningful piece in return.

Tait rounds out the group as the most likely to be dealt. The 19-year-old catcher and designated hitter has long-term value, but with Ryan Jeffers and Victor Caratini already set behind the plate, he is more expendable than the others.

The Twins have real decisions to make in the coming days. But one thing is clear. They have the prospect capital to be aggressive buyers if they choose to be.
