1 Free Agent Twins Should Sign Before Spring Training cover image

The Twins could boost their bullpen by signing this pitcher.

The Minnesota Twins are in an interesting spot. They entered the offseason as a rebuilding candidate, yet the ball club ultimately decided to keep their stars. That indicates they want to win in 2026, but it has been a quiet offseason in reference to adding players as well. So, if Minnesota does want to compete, giving the bullpen a boost should be a priority.

Manager Derek Shelton even recently admitted that he expects the Twins to make some bullpen moves before spring training. While Shelton did not reveal Minnesota's exact plans, it would not be surprising to see the Twins add a reliever or two.

One right-handed pitcher who could be an option for the team is Seranthony Dominguez.

Dominguez, a 31-year-old, made 67 total starts between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays in 2025. He ultimately pitched to an impressive 3.16 ERA in his 62.2 innings out of the bullpen. Dominguez's 79 strikeouts represented a career-high mark as well.

Dominguez ranked in the 94th percentile for fastball velocity and whiff percentage, while checking in at the 91st percentile for strikeout percentage, per Baseball Savant. In other words, he throws extremely hard and gets strikeouts -- both of which are obviously important for late-inning relievers.

Will the Twins Bring in a Reliever?

It has been a rather quiet offseason for the Twins. At this point, adding relief help is a necessity since Minnesota seemingly wants to compete in 2026. It remains to be seen exactly who they may sign or trade for, but Dominguez should be a candidate.

They can trade him at the deadline if they struggle. If the Twins find themselves in postseason contention, then Dominguez can help them make a run at the playoffs.

Michael Kopech and Jakob Junis are other potential options for the Twins. Overall, the current relief free agency market doesn't offer too much upside. With that being said, Dominguez is probably the best remaining reliever.

The expectation is that Minnesota will indeed bring in at least one more reliever, but it remains to be seen if it will be a truly impactful arm such as Dominguez. If the Twins decide to pursue him, they could sign the 31-year-old to a two or three-year deal with opt outs included in the contract. A one-year contract may also be a possibility.

Either way, Seranthony Dominguez is a free agent the Twins should certainly consider signing ahead of spring training.
