The New York Yankees are hopeful they'll get healthier over the next few weeks to months. Reports indicate that Gerrit Cole will begin a rehab assignment, that Anthony Volpe seems to be returning at the end of the month, and that the only one who really remains is Carlos Rodon.
Rodon has proven during his time with the Yankees that he can be the arm they hoped for, as he had an excellent 2025 campaign. Unfortunately, Rodon was dealing with an injury during the year and had to undergo offseason surgery. He had bone chips removed from his elbow and has yet to really ramp it up on the mound.
However, according to the latest, it sounds like Rodon is trending in the right direction. He's set to throw another live batting practice and did so on Monday at Yankee Stadium.
“Before Wednesday's game, Boone said Carlos Rodón, who underwent left elbow surgery to remove bone chips in October, will throw another live batting practice session Saturday rather than begin a rehab assignment. The left-hander threw 50 pitches in a simulated setting Monday at Yankee Stadium.
“While Rodón has not pitched in a game since the postseason in October, the 35-year-old Cole appeared in two games during spring training, logging 2⅔ innings. The six-time All-Star and 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner had previously not pitched in a competitive game since starting Game 5 of the 2024 World Series,” Jorge Castillo of ESPN wrote.
It's good to hear that Rodon is at least getting back on the mound, but it also sounds like we're still probably at least a month or two away from him being in Yankee Stadium as a starter for this organization. The Yankees will need him to throw in at least a couple of rehab starts, so that will likely take another two to three weeks.
