Did former New York Yankees star Juan Soto just take a subtle jab at his New York Mets squad?

Juan Soto became Public Enemy No. 1 in the Bronx the second it was announced he was leaving the New York Yankees to sign with the New York Mets in free agency.

That happened back in December 2024, and while over a year has passed, the wound is still rather fresh for Yankees fans.

Of course, Soto's departure was tempered by the fact that the Mets suffered a historic second-half collapse last season and ended up missing the playoffs, but it's hard to imagine Soto ever returning to the good graces of the Yankees faithful.

However, throughout Soto's debut campaign in Queens, rumors persisted that the 27-year-old regretted going crosstown.

Many observed what appeared to be strangely reserved body language from the typically animated Soto in 2025, and there was even speculation that Soto only left the Yanks because his family preferred the deal that the Mets offered.

Well, the four-time All-Star only strengthened that argument with an eyebrow-raising quote during the World Baseball Classic.

While Soto was explaining how much he has been enjoying his time playing for the Dominican Republic, the slugger let an odd comment slip.

“2019 and 2024, those were really fun teams I played with, but this has to be top of the top," Soto told Siera Santos of MLB Network. "You have the whole family, the whole Dominican Republic cheering for you.”

Soto won a World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019 and then went back to the Fall Classic with the Yanks in 2024, so perhaps that was the reason for his remark.

But it's also no secret that there were some issues within the Mets' locker room this past season, and there were also rumblings that Soto did not exactly see eye to eye with shortstop Francisco Lindor.

So perhaps there was something more behind Soto's quote?

Whatever the case, Soto's comments certainly won't sit well with Mets fans, and they will only drum up more conjecture that the outfielder misses his time in the Bronx ... not that it really matters at this point.

Soto signed a 15-year contract with the Mets, a deal that contains an opt out after the 2029 campaign. Maybe Soto will consider a Yankees reunion by that point?
