New York Yankees fans are not happy right now.

The New York Yankees did swing a trade on Sunday, acquiring Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals. Considering the Yankees gave up little in return, it was a fine trade.

It was confusing, given Garcia's lack of a real position, but at least he's a good slugger.

But what about New York's other needs?

The Yankees need bullpen help. They haven't gotten it yet, and you know what? They might not. At least in terms of headline names.

Adrian Morejon seems off limits in San Diego. The Mets already traded Brooks Raley. Luke Weaver and Clay Holmes are still available, but you already know Steve Cohen will set a high asking price from the Yankees.

Otherwise, there aren't many other enticing bullpen arms out there, and the Yanks also seem content to roll with Austin Wells as their starting catcher ... this in spite of the fact he has spent most of the season with an OPS in the .500s.

Yankees fans are already fed up with Brian Cashman. They feel he should have been on the hot seat a decade ago. If the Bronx Bombers come up empty-handed here on Monday's deadline, the vitriol will be even more aggressive.

But is it really Cashman's fault this time around?

With so many ballclubs still in playoff contention, there aren't many teams looking to dump top-tier talent.

The Yanks were never getting Tarik Skubal. It wasn't going to happen. Sure, they could have made an effort for Miami Marlins slugger Liam Hicks to replace Wells, but again, the Yankees seem hung up on making sure Wells gets adequate playing time because of his defensive capabilities.

There are still a few hours remaining until the deadline, and all seems quiet in the Bronx. But Cashman will likely pull off at least one last-minute deal to try and salvage what has been a very odd and largely uneventful deadline (outside of Los Angeles) thus far.

Yankees fans have their torches and pitchforks ready. That's for sure. They'll probably aim to storm Cashman's office regardless of what he does. That's the nature of the Big Apple.

But until the 6 p.m. cutoff passes, we can't really judge the front office. If the Yankees stand pat, however, it could speak volumes about the feeling about the respective statuses of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton for the remainder of the season.
