Perhaps one of the most intriguing storylines concerning the New York Yankees entering Spring Training is the Jasson Dominguez situation.
Dominguez began 2025 as the Yankees' starting left fielder, but ultimately lost his job due to a surging Trent Grisham and the return of Giancarlo Stanton, which made it difficult for Dominguez to get reps.
The former top prospect was ultimately benched down the stretch due to his poor defense and pedestrian bat, and now, everyone is wondering whether or not Dominguez actually has a long-term future in the Bronx.
Well, with Spring Training now officially underway, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke on the Dominguez situation on Friday, and he made it pretty clear that the 23-year-old will likely be starting the regular season in Triple-A.
"I would concede it's in his best interest to be getting everyday reps," Cashman said, via Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. "We'll just have to wait and see how the spring shakes out, who's standing and then we'll make the appropriate decisions when we have our meetings close to the end of camp."

Heading back to the minor leagues would certainly be tough for Dominguez, who made his big-league debut in 2023, underwent Tommy John surgery, resurfaced with the Yankees' major-league club in late 2024 and then became a full-time player to begin the 2025 campaign.
But Dominguez was a considerable disappointment last season, slashing .257/.331/.388 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI over 429 plate appearances while playing some of the worst defense in baseball.
What's more, the Dominican native tallied just four homers and 13 extra-base hits after May, so his bat went pretty dormant over the last several months of 2025.
There is still hope that Dominguez can turn into a serviceable player, but with such a poor glove and not as much pop as many anticipated when he was first rising in New York's system, it's looking more and more like "The Martian" is unfortunately not going to live up to his initial expectations.
