The New York Yankees made the wrong decision here.
When Giancarlo Stanton exited the New York Yankees' win over the Houston Astros on Friday night due to calf tightness, pretty much everyone expected an IL stint.
Yes, Aaron Boone was saying that Stanton was day-to-day and that it wasn't a big deal, but there was absolutely no reason to rush Stanton back in April.
The question is, who would get the call?
Well, we now know the answer: it's Jasson Dominguez.
The Yankees will reportedly be promoting Dominguez to the big leagues, and he will likely serve in the designated hitter slot that had been occupied by Stanton.
On one hand, I get it. Dominguez has big-league experience, and he has been slashing a terrific .306/.404/.471 in Triple-A this season.
But on the other hand, I think New York is making a mistake. Why? Because Spencer Jones is still sitting there waiting for his promotion.
Jones turns 25 years old in a couple of weeks and has yet to hit the majors. This in spite of the hulking outfielder having been viewed as a top-100 prospect for quite some time.

He has also hit five homers with 24 RBI thus far in Triple-A.
Sure, the strikeout problem still exists ... but that's likely never going away. The former first-round pick is always going to strike out. It's just something the Yankees are going to have to muster.
But the qualifier with Jones is that he is an incredible defensive player, which is something Dominguez is absolutely not.
In fact, Dominguez was one of the worst outfielders in baseball last season, and he has shown virtually no improvement down in the minor leagues this year.
Dominguez might be hitting the ball well, but Jones would provide defensive utility for New York as well as a potentially powerful presence at the plate. That would also allow for Aaron Judge to get some off days as a DH.
We should have expected that the Yanks would call up Dominguez all along considering he entered 2025 as a starter and first earned big-league experience back in 2023. But that doesn't mean it's the right decision. Or the most exciting one.
This was the perfect opportunity for the Yankees to give Jones a chance with some regular playing time, but evidently, we aren't going to see that just yet.
