The New York Yankees have made a big move with one of their top prospects.
The New York Yankees' farm system is loaded with pitching talent and probably has one of the deepest groups of young arms in all of baseball.
We saw Cam Schlittler hit the big leagues and dominate in 2025, and the Yankees are hoping some of their other youthful hurlers can repeat Schlittler's success this spring.
On that note, New York has made a major decision with top right-handed pitching prospect Carlos Lagrange, providing him with a non-roster invite to Spring Training, via Gary Phillips of The New York Daily News.
Lagrange was ranked 79th in MLB.com's top 100 prospects heading into 2026, making him the highest-ranked Yankees pitcher. Elmer Rodriguez came in at No. 82.
The 22-year-old went 11-8 with a 3.83 ERA between Single-A Hudson Valley and Double-A Somerset last season, allowing 82 hits while racking up 168 strikeouts over 120 innings of work.
Lagrange has touched 103 mph with his fastball and also features an impressive cutter and changeup. He boasts a lifetime 12.6 K/9 rate since entering the Yankees' minor-league system back in 2022.

While he harnessed it a bit last year, it was still an issue, with the 6-foot-7 flamethrower issuing 62 walks. He owns a career average of 5.2 free passes per nine innings, something he will definitely have to clean up before hitting the big leagues.
The chances of Lagrange actually making New York's major-league roster are slim to none, but perhaps he could end up being a September call-up — or reach the show even earlier — if he puts together a strong showing in the minor leagues this spring.
Lagrange's name has been tossed around in trade speculation all winter, especially with the Yanks having pursued top names like Tarik Skubal and Freddy Peralta.
It doesn't appear the Yankees are eager to include Lagrange in any trade packages, however, and given his phenomenal stuff, that should not come as too much of a surprise.
New York made one major addition to its starting rotation this offseason, acquiring left-hander Ryan Weathers in a trade with the Miami Marlins.
The Bronx Bombers will also be awaiting the return of Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon, both of whom will be sidelined to begin 2026.
