The New York Yankees have been very tight-lipped when it comes to this top prospect.
The New York Yankees entered the season with four players in the top 100 on some prospect lists: George Lombard Jr., Carlos Lagrange, Elmer Rodriguez and Dax Kilby.
We have heard a whole lot about the former three. Lombard was promoted to Triple-A, Lagrange dazzled in Spring Training and Rodriguez has even made a pair of big-league starts.
When it comes to Kilby, however, we have heard virtually nothing.
The 19-year-old shortstop has not yet played this season due to a hamstring injury, and it was like pulling teeth finding out what his issue actually was.
There have been no reports on his timetable nor his progression. It has just been complete radio silence.
The Yankees are known for being very tight-lipped when it comes to injuries, but this seems to be even weirder.
New York selected Kilby in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft and watched as he raked in his debut with Single-A Tampa last season, slashing .353/.457/.441 over 81 plate appearances. He also stole 16 bases.

While Kilby will probably have to shift over to second base eventually due to Lombard's presence at short, Yankees fans have been imaging a middle infield consisting of Lombard and Kilby in the future.
It definitely sounds enticing given the immense talent level of both youngsters, but it would be nice to actually see Kilby get on the field in 2026.
Chances are, he will be back sooner rather than later, and Rotowire oddly has him tabbed to return Friday. I'm not sure how Rotowire would get that information before Yankees insiders, so it's probably not accurate. But if this really is just a hamstring strain, it shouldn't be that long term of an issue.
New York has a ton of prospects that fans were just itching to see develop this season, and Kilby was near the top of the list.
Unfortunately, we haven't been able to see the Newnan, Ga. native take a single at-bat yet.
Hopefully, either Kilby will get to do so soon, or will we actually get a legitimate update on his status.
