The Yankees need help in one area in particular.
As the New York Yankees enter the final part of the 2026 season, all of the focus continues to be centered around whether this team can play well in October.
The Yankees have a very good roster, and one could strongly argue that they might even be the best team in the American League.
However, as we approach the offseason, whether the Yankees win a World Series, represent the American League, or fail to accomplish either, there are a couple of ways for them to improve on both sides of the baseball.
There seems to be a feeling that Jazz will leave the organization in free agency this offseason, something I don't really agree with. However, the Yankees have to make their own decisions and go from there. As for other ways to improve, the bullpen will be a focus.
The Yankees' bullpen wasn't the worst thing in the world throughout the year, at least so far, but it always felt like it could have been a lot better. Instead of really improving it at the deadline, the Yankees didn't do much.
Recently, looking at ways to improve the unit, Bleacher Report suggested the idea of bringing in players like Adrian Morejon and Bryan Abreu, two guys who could come in and make a major impact on the mound.
“With a 2.66 ERA, 10.1 K/9 and 34 saves in 37 chances, David Bednar has been one of the most reliable closers in baseball. Bringing him back should be a top priority. There are many talented bullpen arms on the market this winter, but few have his ninth-inning track record. The ones who do are on the other side of their prime, like Raisel Iglesias and Kenley Jansen. Once the closer's role is solidified, Adrián Morejón and Bryan Abreu would provide a pair of high-octane setup arms with swing-and-miss stuff and multiple prime seasons left in the tank…
“The Yankees actually made a push to acquire him at the deadline, with a package that reportedly included controllable starter Will Warren. He could come with a qualifying offer attached and a hefty AAV ask, but he's one of the best in the business,” Joel Reuter wrote.
If the Yankees were to walk away with players like Abreu and Morejón next year, it should be viewed as a major improvement.
The Yankees understand that both of those guys can come in and get outs at a very high level, especially if David Bednar returns. Having those three arms in the bullpen would be a step in the right direction for a unit that was just about average this year.
