The New York Yankees haven't really made any significant additions outside of Ryan Weathers this offseason, and the jury is even out on Weathers.
Yes, the Yankees re-signed Cody Bellinger, which is a major move in and of itself, but for the most part, they are heading into 2026 with the same team as last year.
Considering New York was bounced from the ALDS back in October, it probably isn't ideal that the Yanks haven't made any real changes, and relying on Gerrit Cole to return from Tommy John surgery is a risky bet.
But perhaps general manager Brian Cashman has something up his sleeve?
While discussing top outfield prospect Spencer Jones recently, Cashman indicated that the 24-year-old could potentially be on the trade block.
“He’s an exciting young talent that’s, again, unproven at the Major League level,” Cashman said of Jones, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “We’re going to find out at some point -- or somebody else would find out at some point, if they pry him away from me.”
Hmm, that last line was interesting.

For as talented as Jones is, he has been a frustrating commodity for the Yankees thus far. Sure, he smashed 35 home runs in 2025, but he also struck out at a blistering rate yet again, and he doesn't seem to be improving in that area.
Jones fell off MLB.com's top 100 prospects list entirely going into 2026, and he has not yet hit the big leagues in spite of the fact that he will turn 25 in May.
New York's decision to re-sign Bellinger on a five-year deal has completely clouded Jones' future, as there is no room for him right now. Jasson Dominguez is currently the fourth outfielder, so there is no path to immediate playing time for Jones.
The Yankees have held Jones out of trade discussions for years now, but it appears that Cashman may now be more open to moving him.
Of course, if New York did jettison Jones, it would be as part of a blockbuster trade, so perhaps Cashman is planning something in the near future?
Chances are, Jones will still be with the organization at the start of next season, but it would be surprising if both Jones and Dominguez were still part of the team come Opening Day 2027.
