It's almost insane that the New York Yankees have continued to deal with injuries at the level they have over the past few years.
This year hasn't been any better, and you can make a strong argument that it's even worse than ever because of how long Aaron Judge has been out.
The Yankees have obviously dealt with a slew of injuries to other players, including the most recent one with Max Fried. Fried, arguably the most important starter in this rotation, was placed on the 15-day IL with a bone bruise in his left elbow.
He's dealt with elbow issues in the past, so this is far from ideal, especially right before October.
Speaking to reporters about the problems the Yankees have had on both sides of the baseball, star Cody Bellinger had a lot to say. He admitted that it's very frustrating that the team has gone through this, as it feels like once one player gets healthy, somebody else goes down.
“It just feels like every time someone comes off, someone goes on,” Bellinger said, per MLB.com. “It’s kind of been like that all year. We’ve been fighting all year, battling injuries. Nothing’s ever going to be handed to you, so you’ve just got to keep on going. Especially in this division, you’ve got to show up every day and win, no matter what happens.”
The Yankees seemingly don't feel worried about Fried's injury, which is interesting to me because any elbow injury should be viewed as a potential issue.
The harsh reality is that guys get hurt at a way higher clip than ever before, so whenever something like this comes up, I wouldn't view it as a non-issue.
Perhaps the Yankees are that confident in things going as planned, as skipper Aaron Boone even said he almost made his next start.
It's really tough to get a feel for what's actually going on here, but hopefully, the Yankees are being genuine, and it's not as big of a deal as it might seem.
“He was close to being able to make his next start, but we’re just trying to be a little bit cautious here and manage this thing as we get down the stretch,” Boone said.
