The New York Yankees could look to make a splash this offseason in MLB free agency.

Each and every offseason, the New York Yankees are a team to watch when it comes to spending big in MLB free agency. They are usually involved with a few of the biggest names on the market.

No one should expect anything different this offseason.

There are quite a few directions the Yankees could choose to go. One of them happens to be in the infield.

Some would like to see New York move on from Anthony Volpe at shortstop. However, it's also possible that the Yankees could explore upgrades at third base. Either way, one name has come up as a popular target for the team.

Bo Bichette, the star shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays, is set to be available. New York has been talked about as a team who could swoop in and steal him away from the AL East rival.

A new connection has been made between the Yankees and Bichette.

Keegan Matheson of MLB.com has named New York as a team to watch when it comes to Bichette in free agency.

“Position is going to determine the field—or perhaps even expand it—but I’d roll the Yankees in,” Matheson wrote. “Even if he’s signed as a second baseman or third baseman, Bichette is a bat that fits in any lineup.”

Making a move for Bichette could make a lot of sense for the Yankees. He could play multiple different positions for them and he would also be a long-term addition.

At 27 years old, there will be a large list of potential suitors for Bichette. He has had a big year for the Blue Jays in 2025.

Throughout the course of the season, Bichette has played in 139 games. He has hit 18 home runs to go along with 94 RBI, while also batting .311/.357/.483 to go along with an OPS of .840. Those numbers would be a nice addition for New York.

He's not going to come cheap. If the Yankees want to sign Bichette, they're going to have to open up their checkbook. That is something they're usually willing to do for the right players.

Expect to continue hearing rumors about New York and Bichette as the offseason draws closer. Signing him would not only improve a weakness for the Yankees, but it would also hurt one of their divisional opponents. That would be the best of both worlds.

It will be interesting to see if New York actually does throw its hat in the ring for Bichette.
