Could the New York Yankees lose one of their impending free agents to the New York Mets?

The New York Yankees are fully focused on getting into the postseason and making a run at another World Series appearance.

After coming up just short last season and losing in the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Yankees are hungry to take the next step. At this point in the season, they appear to have a chance to do so, although there are still a lot of questions the team needs to answer.

While the focus is on the upcoming postseason, it's never too early to look ahead to the offseason.

There will be quite a few decisions that need to be made. Cody Bellinger could become a free agent if he chooses to do so. Trent Grisham will become a free agent.

Grisham has been a key part of the New York lineup this season. He has played in 123 games throughout the 2025 campaign and has hit 30 home runs to go along with 64 RBI. He has also slashed .247/.355/.485.

With that being said, one MLB insider has suggested that the New York Mets could be a potential threat to steal Grisham away during free agency this coming offseason.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post named the Mets as a team to watch for Grisham. He also suggested both the Baltimore Orioles and San Francisco Giants. The Yankees were also on Heyman's list of potential suitors.

Losing Grisham would be a tough enough thing to swallow. However, losing him to the crosstown rival would make things worse.

Add in the fact that the other New York team signed superstar outfielder Juan Soto last offseason in free agency and the thought of Grisham leaving for the Mets gets even worse.

At 28 years old, Grisham will be a very valuable free agency target for any team needing outfield help. While the Yankees could very well end up bringing him back, they will face competition to do so.

Expect to continue hearing rumors and speculation about Grisham's future as the season continues on. As the offseason draws closer, his name will become very popular as a possible target for quite a few different teams across the league. Keep an eye on the Mets as a potential suitor.
