The New York Yankees have received some bad news on the trade front.

The New York Yankees seem to be exploring a variety of trades this offseason, and potential target for the club has been Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager.

The Rangers have taken a massive step back the last two years after winning the World Series in 2023, which has led to speculation they could attempt a rebuild.

Texas already dealt middle infielder Marcus Semien to the New York Mets earlier this offseason, but it landed another bloated contract in Brandon Nimmo in return. So that doesn't really constitute much of a reset.

But is it possible the Rangers could try and jettison Seager — who holds far more value than Semien — for a stash of prospects, and could the Yankees be the team that lands him?

Well, Rangers president Chris Young provided some bad news for New York on that front this week, telling MLB Network Radio that Texas has no intention of moving Seager.

“While I understand teams checking in, I think that’s been a little overblown in terms of we are not shopping Corey Seager,” Young said. “What I love is that Corey Seager is a great player for the Texas Rangers. Our goal is to win a championship, and to win a championship you have to have great players.”

Seager slashed .271/.373/.487 with 21 home runs and 50 RBI over 445 plate appearances in 2025, missing some time due to a nagging hamstring injury and an appendectomy.

The 31-year-old had made three straight All-Star appearances prior to this past season, with his best year coming during the Rangers' World Series campaign in 2023 when he smashed 33 homers and 42 doubles while driving in 96 RBI and posting a 1.013 OPS.

Seager began his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015 and spent his first seven years with the club before signing with Texas.

After struggling in the field throughout much of his tenure with the Dodgers, Seager has turned himself into a tremendous defensive shortstop with the Rangers, most recently posting a plus-16 DRS in 2025.

The biggest sticking point with Seager is his contract, as he is making $31.5 million annually each year through 2031. That could be an issue for Yankees club that wants to keep its payroll in check.

But apparently, it's a moot point anyway, as Texas seems intent on keeping Seager.
