The New York Yankees had a dominant win in Game 2 against the Boston Red Sox, advancing them to the ALDS.
The New York Yankees are moving on to the ALDS after defeating the Boston Red Sox in two straight games. The Yankees came away with a strong 9-0 win in Game 1 and followed it up with another dominant 9- 2 win in Game 2.
New York's offense was quiet in the first three innings, but Luis García Jr. ended the scoreless tie with a solo home run off Sonny Gray. The Yankees added another run in the bottom of the 5th on a Cody Bellinger single, which scored Austin Wells.
Gray finished his day for the Red Sox, going 4.2 innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out six.
On the other side, New York had Max Fried on the mound in Game 2, and he had a great outing, going six innings, allowing three hits and an earned run while striking out six. The lone run he allowed came in the top of the 6th off a Willson Contreras solo shot.
The Yankees blew the game open against Boston's bullpen in the bottom of the 6th, scoring six runs, headlined by a three-run home run from Cody Bellinger, which gave them an 8-1 lead.
Nick Sogard tried to ignite the Red Sox offense in the top of the 7th, as he hit a solo home run to right off Will Warren, but they couldn't muster any other runs for the rest of the game.
David Bednar closed it out for the Yankees, as they brought him out for the 9th to send them to the ALDS.

After defeating the Red Sox in the Wild Card series, New York will take on another divisional rival in the ALDS, the Tampa Bay Rays.
Tampa Bay had a strong regular season, finishing with a 98-64 record. The Rays are led by star Junior Caminero, who slashed .276/.360/.524 with 42 home runs, 25 doubles, 101 RBIs, 100 runs, and an .885 OPS.
He will be a challenging hitter for the Yankees to face, but they have a talented pitching staff, as evidenced by their sweep of Boston.
Star outfielder Aaron Judge may return from injury in the ALDS, adding more firepower to New York's lineup, which is averaging nine runs per game in the postseason thus far.
It was a strong start to the playoffs for the Yankees, and they will look to defeat another division rival in a clash with the Rays in the ALDS.
