This New York Yankees prospect has been mentioned in the same breath as Juan Soto.

The New York Yankees' farm system is most known for its wealth of pitching talent, but it boasts some pretty impressive position players too.

We all know about Spencer Jones, and George Lombard Jr. is ranked as the top prospect in the Yankees' organization, but it's entirely possible that shortstop Dax Kilby may be the most intriguing talent of them all.

The Yankees selected Kilby in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft. He ended up playing 18 games for Single-A Tampa last season, slashing a blistering .353/.457/.441 over 81 plate appearances. He also stole 16 bases.

Obviously, that's a very minuscule sample size, but Kilby's talent was on full display during that brief run this past year.

It was enough for Kilby to jump into MLB.com's top 100 prospects, with the 19-year-old coming in at No. 97.

Keith Law of The Athletic was not ready to rank him that high just yet, but he did have him just outside his own top 100 list, placing him at No. 101.

What's more, Law revealed a wild statistic that has Kilby in the same company as former Yankees star — and Bronx pariah — Juan Soto.

"He made extremely hard contact, too, averaging 91.9 mph and peaking at 108.9, while his chase rate of 11.1 percent was … well, Juan Soto had the lowest chase rate in the majors last year, and his was 18.1 percent," Law wrote.

Law was referring to Kilby's short stint in New York's system this past season, where he struck out just 11 times. That's good for a strikeout rate of just 13.6 percent. For reference, Jones was at 35.4 percent between Double-A and Triple-A in 2025, which is the primary reason why he has fallen out of the top 100 entirely.

The fact that Kilby is already demonstrating such superb plate discipline is obviously a fantastic sign moving forward, and it indicates that the Newman, Ga. native could ultimately progress through the Yankees' farm system pretty rapidly.

Of course, we have seen plenty of prospects get off to blazing starts and then fade in the past, so the jury is still out on Kilby. He's still a teenager, after all.

But it's hard not to be impressed with what we've seen from the youngster thus far, and it stands to reason that he and Lombard could ultimately comprise New York's middle infield of the future.
