Yankees Have Another Major Injury Concern Entering Stretch Run cover image

With the regular season winding down, another injury concern has hit the New York Yankees.

The 2025 MLB season has been a roller coaster for the New York Yankees. At times, the team has looked like a potential World Series contender. In other moments, there have been questions about the team's ability to even get into the postseason.

Right now, the Yankees hold an 80-63 record. They are just two games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the race for the American League East division.

When it comes to the Wild Card race, New York sits atop the American League.

Throughout the course of the year, the Yankees have been hit with quite a few injury issues. Now, there is another concerning injury the team is monitoring.

Paul Goldschmidt has been dealing with knee sprain. He was only available as an emergency option in the team's second game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

How concerned is New York with the injury? Aaron Boone is optimistic that the injury isn't serious, but that doesn't fix the fact that the Yankees could have a problem on their hands. He has gone through more testing on the injury and has not been playing well with it.

So far this season, the 37-year-old Goldschmidt has played a solid role for New York. He has appeared in 129 games and has hit 10 home runs to go along with 43 RBI. Goldschmidt has a slash line of .277/.328/.417.

He's clearly no longer the star that he once was. However, he's a key role player.

Should the injury be more serious than anticipated, the Yankees could be in trouble. They are relying on Ben Rice to slide over and take his spot right now. New York will need all the depth and firepower at the plate it can get down the stretch.

Hopefully, Boone's optimism is correct and the Yankees will have a healthy Goldschmidt headed towards the postseason. If that isn't the case, he will be just another injury obstacle that New York has had to overcome.

More information is sure to come available about Goldschmidt's status in the near future. For now, it's another reason for concern surrounding the Yankees.
