The New York Yankees have received a significant update on the trade value of Spencer Jones.

The New York Yankees and their fans may still consider outfielder Spencer Jones to be a top prospect, but the rest of baseball doesn't seem to agree.

Jones' name has completely fallen off most top-100 prospect lists, and with the slugger set to turn 25 years old this May still having not made his big-league debut, there is legitimate concern surrounding his future.

The hulking 6-foot-7 youngster has enjoyed a strong Spring Training, smashing three home runs while displaying impressive plate discipline. However, there is no room for him on the Yankees' current roster, which has sparked plenty of trade discussion.

But just how much trade value does Jones actually have at this juncture? ESPN's Jorge Castillo has reported that it isn't much.

"The glaring shortcoming, combined with his age, resulted in him falling off recent top 100 prospect lists and his trade value sinking," Castillo wrote.

New York has kept Jones out of trade talks ever since it drafted him back in 2022, but the Vanderbilt product has not materialized like the Yankees had hoped.

That's not to say he hasn't shown explosive talent.

Jones racked up 35 homers between Double-A and Triple-A last year, slashing .274/.362/.571 over 506 plate appearances.

The problem, however, was Jones' whiff rate, as he struck out 179 times.

Strikeouts have remained a major issue for Jones throughout his minor-league tenure, which is why he has yet to hit the majors.

That is expected to change this season, however. Most are anticipating that Jones will finally make his debut at the Show at some point in 2026, and if Trent Grisham gets off to a rough start, he could ultimately supplant Grisham as the starting center fielder.

New York is surely operating under the assumption that Jones will become its franchise center fielder soon, so the Yanks do not appear eager to move Jones anyway.

But if things did reach a stage where the Yankees decided to try and trade the California native, their return might not be so extravagant.

Hopefully, things never get to that point and Jones can establish himself as a key piece in the Bronx for years to come.
