The New York Yankees have placed Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the injured list in brutal news before the playoffs.
The injuries just keep on coming for the New York Yankees, with just a few weeks to go before the playoffs start.
The Yankees have now placed outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the injured list with a sprained right thumb. This is a brutal hit to the Yankees' lineup, and the veteran will have no baseball activity during this time.
"We just got an update that he does have a sprained right thumb. It's going to require an IL stint, so no baseball activities for the next seven-to-10 days, and then we'll see where we are at," Boone said.
Chisholm had been in the midst of a down season to his standards, with him hitting .232 with 19 home runs, 55 RBIs, and 40 stolen bases. The outfielder also has posted an OPS of .715 for the season, playing in 134 games.
Losing Chisholm is a blow to the offense for the Yankees, especially with there only being a few weeks left in the regular season. If the recovery for Chisholm doesn't go as planned, he could be in danger of missing some playoff games.
Chisholm left the team's game against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday early. The issue seems to have gotten worse with time, and now he will miss the next few weeks.
Luckily, the Yankees just got star outfielder Aaron Judge back from a long injury stint; otherwise, this could have been much worse. The Yankees' outfield depth has taken a hit this year, with multiple guys going in and out due to injuries.
In his return, Judge didn't record a hit, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. But having him back in the lineup should provide New York with a spark, even as Chisholm goes down for the foreseeable future.
Chisholm will be a free agent at the end of the 2026 season, making the injury even tougher on him. With this and the down year, there has been speculation that Chisholm may not have a large market this offseason.
But the hope is that he won't have to miss more time than originally anticipated due to the thumb injury. All the Yankees can do now is hope for the best, giving Chisholm ample time to recover from this and get back on the field.
New York won't rush him back, allowing him whatever time is needed to heal. The Yankees want to make sure that Chisholm is available for the postseason, given how crucial he is to the team's success.
